The beautiful and historic seaside community of Round Hill in South Dartmouth, MA, boasts a challenging 9-hole golf course, with 5 sets of tees, that stretches to 3200+ yards with a slope and rating of 35.7/125. Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones, the course includes a varying hole layout, magnificent ocean views, and a signature island green. While operations are year-round, play is mostly seasonal and is exclusively for residents, a limited number of members, and accompanied guests.
The ideal candidate for the Mechanic/Assistant Superintendent role would have experience and strong knowledge of turf equipment repair and maintenance, as well as experience performing regular golf course maintenance duties. Consideration could be made for a strong mechanic looking to take on more of an Equipment Manager role.
This position reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and serves as the lead staff member in the oversight, maintenance, and repair of golf maintenance equipment, and assists the Golf Course Superintendent in the overall management of the golf course, facilities, staff and operations as needed. This position requires a minimum of 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with weekend work required in-season. Selected candidates must successfully pass a full background check to gain employment.
Qualifications
Required:
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation -Minimum High School diploma or GED/Equivalent
- Experience in the maintenance and repair of golf equipment
- Ability to operate golf course equipment in the field with experience in golf course maintenance.
Preferred:
- A degree, certificate, or coursework in Mechanical Training or Turf Management
- MA State Pesticide Applicators License (or ability to obtain one within 90 days).
- MA State Hoisting License
- Member GCSAA
Job Tasks/Duties
- Supervises all equipment repairs and scheduled maintenance; communicates any large-impact items to the Superintendent in a timely manner.
- Maintains accurate work records for all ordering, inventory, maintenance, and repairs.
- Ensures that chemicals, petroleum, and other controlled products are used, stored, and disposed of in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations; maintains required records and strives to minimize the use of chemicals and petroleum products when possible.
- Selects and prepares proper fertilizers and nutrients to maintain/improve golf course quality and prevent disease.
- Helps to maintain the golf course in proper playing condition.
- Assists in the repair of irrigation lines, heads, or valves and performs necessary repairs as needed.
- Additional tasks assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent.
Compensation
- Salary based on a 40-hour hourly rate of $25 - $27.50, DOE
